Ship of Harkinian on Mac: how to play Ocarina of Time

Ship of Harkinian runs on a Mac. It is a native PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, built on the game's decompilation, made by HarbourMasters. The current release, 9.3.0 (October 6, 2026), ships a Mac build (universal, runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel). You supply your own copy of the game; Ship of Harkinian supplies everything else.

How to install Ship of Harkinian on a Mac

  1. Download the Mac zip from the project's releases page and extract it to a normal local folder, not a temporary or cloud-synced one (the project's own guide is firm about this).
  2. Open SoH.dmg and drag the app into Applications.
  3. Get past Gatekeeper. macOS blocks it the first time because the project is not signed by Apple. Control-click the app and choose Open. On macOS 13 or later, if that offers no Open button, go to System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway (it appears for about an hour after the first attempt).

Ship of Harkinian on its official page: download only from there. Sites offering a version with the game already inside are pirated, and often carry malware.

The game file you need

Your own copy of Ocarina of Time. Almost every version works: NTSC 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2, PAL 1.0 and 1.1, the GameCube release and Master Quest, as a .z64, .n64 or .v64 file. You can check yours against the supported list at ship.equipment.

On first launch it says no game data was found. Click Yes, then Yes again, and pick your file. It builds its own data file (oot.o2r) from it, which takes a minute, and the game starts.

What you get

  • Higher frame rates and widescreen
  • A built-in randomizer
  • Enhancements and cheats, plus an "authentic" mode
  • Custom asset packs in the mods folder
  • Metal renderer on Mac, with OpenGL as a fallback

Saves and settings live in ~/Library/Application Support/com.shipofharkinian.soh.
